SCIS 1999

The US had some "new toys" to play with. People donated ammunition to the cause for the improvement of International Relations (they let the "Brits" borrow their guns)...

1) I also got to play with some guys Thompson - I'm indebted to his girlfriend for this - she kindly loaded the magazines. Many Thanks.
2) The guys brought along some really interesting guns that you can normally only get to see in books or a museum. But to see these work is something else. Here we've got a US Reising sub-gun circa WW2.
3) Here we have the ubiquitous MG42. In 98 we saw it work - in 99 we got to work it...
4) And then some kind soul...
5) ...brought along a Mcmillan .50 rifle
6) And the silly man said does any one want a go with the rifle - and he even said help yourself to ammo.
7) So without further prompting I took him at his word, together with his rifle, and ammo, I didn't catch the guy's name but I'm very grateful for the chance to have a go...
8) ...I must admit that I was dubious about the recoil after the previous year's encounter with a Boyes rifle, but this was easy by comparison. The muzzle break helped greatly in taming recoil - as the right hand picture shows.
